The Big Dance Recital

For the past 9 months, Amelia has been enrolled in a ballet/tap class at a local studio in Katy.  The teachers are strict and the studio has lots of rules, which I thought would be great for keeping Amelia focused.  She HATED it!!  Every Saturday she complained about getting up and going to class.  However,  afterwards she would tell me it wasn't THAT bad since she got to spend time with her friends (several of her Primrose pals were in the class).  She agreed to finish out the remaining classes as we're trying to teach her that you can't just quit in the middle of something.  Plus - I'd already paid for recital & costume fees!

Last Saturday was the big recital, held in a High School auditorium since there were so many age groups performing.  It was madness backstage - a poof of tutus, feathers, sequins, buns & glitter!  We had to arrive with hair done and makeup on (makeup was not mandatory but EVERYONE else was putting it on their 4yr old!) and then spend the next hour lacing up corsets and poofing up tulle skirts.  I totally have a little Stage Mom inside of me, so it's probably a good thing that Amelia doesn't want to take dance classes again!

All the girls did fantastic, actually dancing instead of standing still or picking their noses (a frequent thing during practices).  I asked one last time if she was really done with dance class and she said YES! and said she'd rather just explore the backyard and dig for worms, maybe take swim classes and work on puzzles on Saturday mornings.

 Inspecting that huge trophy!

All the daddies went up with flowers and escorted the girls offstage.

  1. Those are so sweet! It's funny that she is over it though...at least she knows what she wants! Maybe Juliet will give you the opportunity to shine as a stage mom.
