Christmas at Hyatt Lost Pines

Since we didn't have any family in town for Christmas and no other special plans, we decided to take a last minute trip to Bastrop, just outside of Austin, to stay at the Hyatt Lost Pines for a few nights.  We'd never been but had heard lots of great things about it - family resort with lots of summertime fun.  We thought we'd give it a shot during the off-season while rates were low and see what they offered for winter fun.  We had a blast and can't wait to go back in the summer!

Santa came!  He brought Amelia her beloved rocking horse.  We couldn't pull off the swingset as a Santa gift so this was what he 'really' brought.  

The lobby of the Hyatt had a little mini museum with "Texas" stuff, including this life-sized horse with a saddle. 

There were 2 main restaurants at the hotel, a fancy steakhouse and a casual family style place.  Obviously we chose the casual one!  Amelia was soooo good during meals - could it be because of the kids buffet that included a gummy worm table?!  A woman actually came up to us during one of our meals to tell us how impressed she was that someone so young could sit still for so long! 

 

It was so cold during our trip - nighttime temps were in the 30s!  Cold weather is so rare here that I loved it.  Amelia got to wear her new coat and mittens and never complained about the cold.

 Every evening they had S'mores outside around a big firepit.  Those treats made a big mess but were so tasty!

The hotel was pet-friendly so Chi Chi got to come too.  Here she is in her blue argyle sweater ready to get saddled up for the trail ride.

While exploring the property we came across a big bike rack filled with everything from pink tricycles to adult-sized mountain bikes.  They were all free for guests to use!  I'm glad Amelia got to try out the tricycle as we learned that she's still too small to use one on her own.

 We found some neat rocking chairs but Amelia wasn't too happy to pose on one since that meant she had to give up the tricycle!

 Each room had a 'normal' entrance via the hotel lobby and long hallways but they all had sliding glass doors that opened up into different courtyards.  Our room was on the 1st floor so taking Chi Chi out in the morning was just a matter of opening up the back door.  There were huge pecan trees and nuts everywhere - good for snacking!
